Our mission and vision

At U.P.M. Kunststoffen, innovation meets sustainability. We’re on a mission that goes beyond business – it’s a commitment to the planet. We see it as our duty to tackle the PTFE residual challenge head-on. How? By giving these materials a new lease on life. Imagine a world where PTFE residual products don’t end up as waste, but are transformed into something valuable for industries.

Our mission is clear: reduce PTFE waste, save the environment, and create a greener industry. Now, let’s talk about our vision. We’re not content with just reducing waste; we’re closing the loop entirely. Picture a future where PTFE residuals are removed from the market, carefully stored, processed, and repurposed into new applications. No more landfills, just a sustainable world where our actions make a positive impact. Join us on this journey towards a circular economy, where waste is history, and sustainability is the future.

We have come a long way

EARLY 1980s

Founded by Ed van Gilst, U.P.M. emerged as a pioneering force in PTFE compound production, leveraging its deep expertise and entrepreneurial spirit.

The start of innovative production methods led to a rapid increase in business development, not only within the domestic market, but also across various European countries. The company’s success prompts expansion into intercontinental markets.

Robert van Gilst, Ed van Gilst son, acquires U.P.M. from his father. The acquisition leads to a period of significant growth, due to expansions in both the portfolio and production capacity.

U.P.M. takes a bold step by establishing a pressing department and entering into a joint venture with a production company of PTFE end products. This strategic move allows U.P.M. to offer a wide range of her products, from compounds to semifinished and finished items.

A pivotal year for U.P.M., witnessing the division of the company into two distinct production entities. U.P.M. Kunststoffen takes charge of the production and business development of micro powders, while U.P.M. Compounds focuses on PTFE compound production.

Present day

U.P.M.’s commercial activities are seamlessly integrated within Simulpars, which consists of a range of companies within the PTFE industry, uniting business development efforts across all companies, both in the domestic and international markets.
